We highly recommend Trisha and Daintree

My husband, Jon, and I had been considering getting a second dog for a while and timing felt right. We got Hank Williams, also a Duck Tolling Retriever, almost three years ago from an alternate breeder who has made the hard decision not to breed anymore. I had been following Daintree on Instagram for about two years and when the Spring Fling Litter was born, I knew I had to submit an application. We were lucky enough to be selected to receive a puppy and Trisha and her team have been great through the whole process. We have received multiple sources of information (training manual, puppy culture videos and the Daintree Website) to learn more about how to raise a new dog. I did not realize how much information I was missing. We were also able to watch the puppies develop through Facebook, Instagram and Zoom. We thought we had it good with Hank when he came home crate trained. Our new pup, George Straight, is crate trained, basically house trained (if you are following the advice on when to let your pup out from Puppy Culture), able to handle noise/startle and all social situations we have put him in. Due to the COVID19 situation, travel was a challenge, but Trisha worked with all of the families to best accommodate their pickup situations. We highly recommend Trisha and Daintree as the breeder you choose to receive a toller from.

Their Dedication to all of the dogs is very evident

We recently brought home Gump, our red ball of fluff from the Hakuna Matata Litter. Astutely named for happy positive vibes which pretty well sums up our entire experience with Daintree. We’ve had one puppy on our hands for one week and it’s all-consuming, yet somehow Trisha, Scott and their amazing team manage to very successfully raise their litters and keep all us very excited soon to be puppy parents informed every step of the way. It helps to make for a smooth transition from breeder to home life. Their dedication to all the dogs is very evident and the care and devotion provided to all puppies is simply heartwarming. We are lucky to be part of the Daintree family as the support they provide doesn’t stop after the Gotcha Day but continues throughout the dogs entire life.

Daintree Puts so much love in Everything they do

I highly, highly recommend Daintree Duck Tollers. It's hard to articulate ALL the reasons why, but I can try to sum it up in one word: love.
Our Daintree pup has been with us for just one week so far, and we have fallen for her hook, line and sinker - it's love!

Trisha and Scott and their team put so so much love into everything they do. You feel it instantly as soon-to-be-puppy-parents, and you see it in all of the updates and live posts she makes throughout the first couple months of the pups' lives. And, most importantly, it's undeniable through getting to know our gorgeous, calm and happy little pup, that she comes from a home full of LOVE. We feel so lucky to be part of the Daintree family. Trisha makes sure that you are connected to the community from day 1, and communicates with total openness and transparency at every stage. Trisha has high expectations of the families she accepts into the Daintree community, and incredibly high expectations of herself and her team, and it shows in everything she does. This is our first experience with a breeder, but I can't imagine what else we could possibly have hoped for or imagined. We are so thankful for our little pup, and can't imagine having a better experience of finding each other :)

Our Puppy has been the perfect little Addition to our home

We were fortunate enough to bring home one of the puppies from Daintree's Spring Fling Litter. Toaster (formally Puddles) has been the perfect little addition to our home.

The entire Daintree process has been wonderful. Trisha and her team take the time to get to know their clients and build a relationship with them. As first time puppy parents, this is more than we could have hoped for. We were provided with ample information before Gotcha Day and with their help we felt more than ready to bring our new addition home. They have also been quick to address any concern that we had, including taking the time to show us in person how to cut his nails. We were added to a Facebook Group specifically for our litter and got to watch the puppies grow up from a far. She uploaded plenty of photos and videos and regularly scheduled Facebook Lives for us to feel involved in their day to day.

We credit Trish and her team for how adaptable Toast has been to his new environment. He is curious, ready to learn and everything we were looking for in our canine companion. We are excited to be a part of the Daintree community and would recommend them to anyone looking to bring a Toller into their home.

Trisha is the best breeder out there

We are privileged to have a puppy from the most recent Spring Fling litter and there are no words to explain the experience. From start to finish it was a really amazing journey - Trisha was very open and transparent on the process and with how the puppies were doing. She was available to answer any questions as first time puppy parents. She has great staff to help her and a great partner in Scott to work with the puppies. She even did zoom calls with us to ask questions and show us the puppies. She did live sessions on basic puppy care which was so valuable and made you feel so much more connected to the puppy and her. The amount of love and time she puts into her puppies is phenomenal (I don't know when she sleeps!!) She follows Puppy Culture very closely and the puppy comes home ready for a successful life! Our puppy came home fully litter trained, crate trained, socialized in terms of being able to handle noise, startle response, other people and really just life in general. If anyone wants to be negative that Trisha does this full time they are just jealous as she is the best breeder out there and can produce the high quality puppies she does. You will not be sorry getting your new family member through Daintree and will be worth the wait!!

Props to Trisha and Scott- can’t thank them enough

We were so unbelievably lucky to get Margo, now known as Isla at the end of November last year. I know that Trisha was apprehensive about sending a puppy to a house with a three-year-old and a five-year-old.

Isla Is the most well behaved puppy that I have ever met. Through the puppy culture program that Trisha suggested, we feel that Isla has thrived in our household. I swear this has helped her become the dog she is. It’s so important to get this training in in those early weeks. She is just such a love in our family and I have never met a better dog in my life. That being said the raw food diet, the puppy culture training and being consistent with the teachings of what Trisha has suggested has created such an amazing family member for us.

She loves going for hikes, coming with us when we when we go cross country skiing, when we go boating and fishing and when we are outside in general. We absolutely adore her. She was worth every single penny!! Trisha has supported us from the first day and continues to so. Props to Trisha and Scott!! Can’t thank them enough ❤️.

We could not be happier

We’re three weeks in with our Daintree pup Darwin (formerly Crush) and we could not be happier.

The Experience:

We’ve known we wanted a Toller for quite a while and we spent a number of months “lurking” Daintree’s social media before we decided it was the right time to commit. When we submitted our application we were immediately impressed by: (1) how responsive Daintree was, and (2) the level of detail and thought that Trisha had put into the questionnaire to apply (it was clear she was looking for committed owners like us). After a phone interview – where we were equally invited to ask as many questions of Trisha as vice versa – we decided Daintree was the right breeder for us.

We loved that Trisha allowed us to have sneak peaks into the puppies’ early days, posting daily updates and pictures. By the time it came time to pick up our puppy, we felt we knew him already and loved all of his littermates too.

Unfortunately, we were scheduled to have our Gotcha Weekend at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, but Trisha was proactive and flexible and created a solution that allowed us to all get our pups. While we are sad we missed out on what would have been an amazing weekend, we are so grateful she made the arrangements for us to get our pups safely.

Our Pup:

While we are only three weeks in, it is already apparent that Trisha has set Darwin up for success. He came to us knowing to automatically sit and look at us if he wanted something from us – super impressive.

At this stage Darwin is calm (seriously he’s the calmest puppy we have ever met!) and quick to pick up new skills. He is tentative in new situations, but quickly opens up once he understands he is safe. We have a lot to learn yet together, but we are so excited for a lifetime with Darwin.

Trisha:

Trisha is absolutely lovely and is clearly passionate about her dogs. She takes the time to get to know her puppies’ future pawrents and matches the pups with the owner that will suit them best. She is so warm and friendly and once this pandemic is over, we can’t wait to go back to Nakusp to have a proper visit.

I cant say enough good things about Daintree Kennels

I would highly recommend
Daintree Kennels to anyone looking to buy a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever.

Though the timing wasnt ideal for me to get another dog when Lexi ( Queen from the Bee.tles 2019 Litter.) I'm thrilled that I took the leap and brought her into my life and home, the start Trisha and Scott gave her in life made for an easy transition for her, and all the training they do before you receive your puppy makes everything easier for you.

Since I wasnt able to pick her up, they worked with me and we made a plan to get her to Vancouver Island and it was an easy and comfortable process, Lexi arrived calm and quiet and traveled well from the plane - home.

I can’t say enough good things about Daintree Kennels and everything Trisha and Scott do for the puppies and dogs !

Lexi is the perfect fit for me and my family, and it wouldnt of been possible without Daintree Kennels.

To say they are committed is a giant understatement

Hello folks, we were lucky enough to bring little Koa home for good at 12 wks old.  Many may have followed his story thru Daintree as Sol.  He came into the world with some challenges for sure.

Trisha and Scott made a split second decision at his birth to try with all their might to give this wee soul a shot at life.  They made this decision not knowing where it would lead or what it would entail.

The challenge with his cleft palate and bilateral cleft lip was of course to feed and hydrate him, as he was unable to nurse.  This meant that for the first 4.5 wks of his life, he was tube fed every 3-4 hrs around the clock. The level of exhaustion and anxiety during this first period especially was very high.  Trisha and Scott did not let up…… he continued to gain weight very slowly, but surely.  To say they were committed to him is a gigantic understatement.

I was able to meet Koa at approximately 4 wks old, when I visited.  I watched him being fed and weighed and even had him set up in the bathroom while I had a hot shower. It was a technique used to help clear the mucous in his nasal passages, as he had a tendency to get quite congested.

For a pup, the first 8 wks of life at Daintree include a great diet (raw) to supplement nursing; a varied exposure to many experiences (proprioceptive, attention/manding, car rides, learning to be calm when crated, leash walking 101, and so much more…..)

Cleanliness and hygiene are first class at Daintree, for their living spaces, the pups themselves and anything related to feeding/bedding/toys.

I can not stress enough the amount of time and care and love that go into raising these puppies.

Koa came away with all of the above and due to his needs, he received extra doses of hands on time while still being raised with his litter mates.

Personally, I had a hard time forgetting this little guy.  After some discussion with Trisha and Scott, it was decided that yes, Koa would come to his forever home with us at 12 wks old. His big sis Franni (our first Daintree pup) had Koa arrive home on her 2nd birthday at the end of Nov 2019.  He was 7 months old on April 2/2020.  He has had some surgery and will have some more.  He is a gem, plain and simple. We are so very grateful to have him as part of our family.

So, if you are looking for an ethical breeder, and one that provides education, support and clear communication throughout the adoption process, then Daintree is my recommendation.  Good luck!!

Sincerely the Abbott/Finocchio family, and critters.

I was matched with the perfect puppy

Even with my extremely high expectations for breeders, I have been blown away with my Daintree experience and puppy. Trisha and team put in countless hours not only keeping their puppies clean and healthy, but going out of their way to make sure the puppies are as well prepared for their adult life as possible through early and intensive puppy training and socialization. I know this not only because my puppy showed me the results, but because I spent two weeks with Trisha and Scott last summer to assist with raising the Story Time and Wild West litters.

Daintree raises their puppies with a phenomenal puppy rearing program called Puppy Culture. What this means is that these puppies have been introduced to a variety of concepts including sitting as a way of asking for things like attention (called manding), coming when called, relaxing in a crate, walking on leash, basic problem solving, and more. As a professional dog trainer, I have often been asked “Why don’t you just teach this to your puppy yourself? Why go through the trouble of having your breeder do it for you?” The answer is that I would if I had my puppy for those first critical weeks, but I don’t. The moment I took my puppy away from his littermates, he was able to relax in a crate, walk with me on a leash, and engage with me in already familiar training games. This invaluable headstart resulted in a stress free international trip home and a seamless integration into my household.

As I type this, Freddie (formerly Amico of Anything Goes 2.0) is 6 months old. More and more every day, it is clear that I made the right choice and was matched with the perfect puppy. He is showing incredible potential for the Service Dog life, as well as great drive for the dog sports we hope to compete in. His personality is perfectly happy-go-lucky, focused, driven, thoughtful, playful, silly, affectionate. Overall, he is fearless. But when things do scare him, he recovers very quickly and looks to me for direction. I have worked with hundreds of puppies (maybe more), and this has seriously been puppy raising in easy mode.

Because I am a dog trainer and see dogs with severe behavior problems every day, the behavioral aspect of puppy raising was and is most important to me. However, the nutritional aspect is a close second since nutrition has a very direct effect on a dog’s behavior and a puppy’s overall potential. Daintree puppies and adult dogs are fed a raw food diet and have been for many generations. The freezer stockpile and organization it takes to feed so many dogs raw is no small feat. Daintree’s commitment is extremely impressive.

Then there are vaccinations. I won’t pretend I am an expert on this subject (far from it), but Daintree is very mindful about vaccinations and encourages the use of titer tests as an alternative to the standard over vaccination of puppies and adult dogs which can also lead to biological and behavioral health issues.

Lastly, there are my “bare minimums” for any breeder. Daintree is simply an ethical and humane breeder. If you must rehome your dog at any point in their life, Trisha would and does welcome them back with open arms. The dogs are health tested and matings are carefully selected. All of the dogs are raised and live inside her home, get daily exercise and love, are regularly groomed, and are trained using positive methods. Trisha is honest about the fact that a Toller is not the right breed for everyone and very carefully selects puppy buyers to make sure her puppies will have the best lives possible.

The extra mile Daintree goes to raise their puppies is invaluable to anyone considering a Toller puppy as a pet or otherwise. I cannot overemphasize how pleased I am and how strongly I recommend Daintree if you are considering a Duck Toller.

Life altering experience with Daintree Kennels

I would recommend and strongly encourage anyone who is considering adding a Toller to their family to go through this life altering experience with Daintree Kennels. Trisha and Scott’s passion in raising their puppies is second to none and it is the reason demand for these puppies extends across the world.

They were respectful and prompt throughout the entire application process and equipped us with the right resources to ensure we were fully prepared to welcome our “Bubbles” home. They were professional and accommodated unique circumstances to ensure we received our puppy in a time of great uncertainty around COVID-19.

Ollie has been adjusting very well to his new home with no problems sleeping through the night and no hesitation to physical touch to his face, paws, or ears. Amongst other things, the recall exercises they have instilled in our boy are amazing. They have also been very proactive in following up with our litter regarding any questions we had following pick up. This has made the transition that much easier.

Lastly, the social media presence that Daintree maintains is very special. I’ve had a unique bond with my puppy since the day he was born by watching him grow up through a dedicated Facebook group assigned to our litter. By the time I met my puppy I felt like I had known him forever, which just made the moment that much more amazing.

Trisha and Scott are a pleasure to work with

We recently purchased a puppy, Marty McFly from the Back to the Eighties litter, from Daintree Duck Tollers. We would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a Duck Tolling Retriever.

Trisha and Scott were a pleasure to work with. They were easy to talk to, helpful, knowledgeable and informative. Trisha was always just a phone call away to answer any of our questions as we prepared to bring our puppy home.

We really enjoyed being able to see the puppies on social media from the time they were born all the way up to when they were ready for adoption at eight weeks. We felt like we got to know all of the puppies, and we fell in love with them all as we watched them grow and change, and learn and explore! We also really enjoyed the “Gotcha” weekend. Trisha and Scott made us feel totally welcome and comfortable, and it was so much fun meeting all of the puppies as well all of the other families that were there. We felt like we were part of a family through our great shared experience and our shared love for the puppies.

We also truly appreciate the training Daintree puts into their puppies before we even meet them. Marty came to us knowing how to sit and walk with a lead, and to our surprise how to use a litter box. Marty is a quick learner who now also lies down on command and plays a great game of fetch.

We were also really pleased with the selection process. It was clear that Trisha and Scott paid attention to our preferences and put a lot of thought into matching each puppy to the right family. We couldn’t be happier with our sweet, smart beautiful boy!

Frangipani is playful, smart, attentive and grounded

Our experiences with Daintree and Trisha have been wonderful! All interactions have been personal, yet informative and professional. her adult dogs are cared for in an exceptional way and they are loved as family pets. The pups are an extension of that. At 60 yrs old, I had never had a puppy. All my dogs had been approx. 8-10 mos. old when they came into our home. Our puppy (Frangipani -Franni) at 9 wks, has had such a head start with Trisha. She is playful, smart, attentive, and grounded (that may sound weird to say, but that is how she comes across to me). if you are looking for a Toller, Daintree is top of my list for sure.

Can not thank Daintree enough

Almost 4 months old now. Wow how time flies. Would not change this for the world.

Highly recommend Daintree. Rodeo came from one of the most loved breeders out there. Can not thank them enough for blessing me with this little bundle of joy 💚

Beyond happy with their new puppy

I highly recommend going through Daintree for a Duck Toller!

I am so impressed with everything they do with the puppies before you receive them. Having Wilbur crate trained really helped on the long car ride back to Vancouver. A 10 week old puppy sleeping through night, AMAZING! We also really enjoyed ourselves at “Gotcha” for the weekend. We learned so much about the breed! I think I would be a little lost if I didn’t attend “Gotcha”.

Thank you Trish and Scott for everything and your continued support through out our journey!

It's very obvious how much time and effort the breeders put in

Working with Daintree Kennels was not only a pleasurable and professional experience but a memorable and impactful one.

From day one of the application process, Daintree Kennels was knowledgeable, communicated on a regular basis, and took pride in their reputation and the well being of their puppies and dogs.

The Gotcha Weekend was a very memorable experience and impressed all the new puppy owners. In the lush area of Burton, BC - Daintree Kennels hosted their clients to a gourmet pizza dinner along with games and other ways for dog lovers to interact and get to know their puppy. Daintree Kennels was extremely thoughtful to the itinerary of the weekend and ensured that their clients had all questions or concerns addressed before taking their puppy home. The following morning there was a breakfast and demonstrations of the pre-training that they offer. All the pups have been trained through Puppy Culture from the day they could see and it was very obvious how much time and effort the breeders put into every one of their puppies.
I feel honoured to be a part of the Daintree family and already have been recommending their kennel to family and friends!

Daintree’s care and attention to their animals is evidenced every step of the way

At Daintree Kennels, Trisha and Scott always put the dogs’ needs first, and their tireless devotion is revealed in bold, loving, and adventuresome puppies. Daintree’s care and attention to their animals is evidenced every step of the way through their careful selection of sire and dam which are screened for health concerns and personality, to creating an enriching home for the puppies in their first nine weeks, to thoughtfully evaluating potential owners, to authoring a thorough puppy-manual, and to crafting an educational Gotcha weekend where puppies and owners first meet.

In the months leading up to the Gotcha event, future owners also have the privilege of watching the puppies grow and discover the world thanks to Trisha’s reliable updating on Daintree’s media accounts. As a future owner, I reveled in the puppy posts, and once my puppy came home I realized just how valuable that knowledge of her early life was as I was aware of all that she had already been exposed to in the world.

Bringing home a puppy from Daintree also means getting to join the extended Daintree family. The Gotcha weekend is just the beginning. After leaving Nakusp, Trisha provided information about other Daintree dogs living in my area, and continued to offer training advice and litter information as needed.

My puppy is creative, curious, and confident.

We are amazed at how well trained Liam was when we got him

We are the proud owners of Liam (Biscuit from the April 2019 Story Time litter) and couldn’t be happier with our Daintree experience! As a family, we loved following the birth of the puppies and their first 9.5 weeks of life on Facebook. Trisha and Scott put enormous effort into keeping families up to date with their development, which really helped us to form an early connection with the puppies.

Between watching Puppy Culture and reading the Daintree Operations Manual we felt very well prepared and Trisha has been wonderful at answering any questions we’ve had since bringing Liam home. The Gotcha event was super and made the entire adoption experience even more special. We were amazed at how well trained Liam was when we picked him up: sleeping through the night in his crate, potty trained with a litter box, great recall and impressive manding/sit skills. Liam has such a lovely demeanour and is the family dog we have always dreamed of.

We are so grateful for Daintree and would highly recommend them!

Utmost care and attention

Daintree takes the utmost care and attention for the ultimate well being of the puppies they bring into the world. Each pup is cared for with love and proper care, ensuring that the puppies are the best version of themselves by the time you meet your new family member!

We were so pleased that our Indiana was such a well-mannered puppy. Trisha made it easy to get training going with good foundations already in place. As new puppy owners, you get a full manual on everything you need to know and Trisha makes sure you have everything you need and are comfortable with all of the protocols and care that the puppy needs to maintain good health for the rest of its life.

We would highly recommending getting your NSDT Retriever from Daintree.

The puppies are raised with love and freedom and it shows

I met my soulmate through Daintree. It was a seamless prosess, simple questions looking for honest, trustworthy owners. The puppies are raised with love and freedom and it shows
My toller (Tessa) is just over a year old now and i still frequent the group pages Trisha introduces you to. The community is strong and proud, if you're interested in getting a Toller I'd say you've come to the right place.
